The Black Bull Inn And Hotel...

The Black Bull Inn and Hotel was built around 400 years ago, about the time of the Spanish armada, as a coaching Inn providing accomodation for both travellers, coachmen and hourses. The Inn is situated in the pictureque village of Coniston, beside the beck and in the shadow of the 'Old Man' mountain. The Big Toe of the Old Man is a large piece of stone set in the wall of the Black Bull resisdents lounge.

The Bar

Many famous people have passed through these portals and enjoyed it's hospitality - Turner the artist, Coleridge, De Quincy on his way to meet William Wordsworth amd more recently Donald Cambell, when attempting his water speed records. The film 'Across the Lake' staring Athony Hopkins, depicting the last 60 days of Campbell's life, also used the Black Bull as a venue. All have lodged here at this historic Inn and we would like to welcome you also. Quality bar meals are served all day with Chef's Specials.
